Abstract

This chapter showcases Living with Machines’ work creating open-source historical data using nineteenth-century British census, map, and railway station datasets. Combining these in ‘convergence experiments’ using place to frame new historical questions, we discuss the challenges and opportunities of making datasets interoperable and offer new insights into the quotidian impact of railways.
