Given the challenges of integrating alternative medicines (AM) into westernized healthcare systems dominated by evidence-based medicine (EBM) framework, in this paper the "Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine Pilot Program" in Hong Kong is used to illustrate how fundamental contradictions between AM and biomedicine erode the local reputation of traditional Chinese medicine.
