Abstract

The proliferation of digital communication contexts offers ample opportunities for researchers to investigate the variety of interactions in which digital technologies contribute. Corpus linguistics offers a set of procedures that is suited to managing substantial collections of language data. Drawing on computational processes that report frequency and statistical measures to highlight patterns in language use, corpus linguistics has supported research into language features that characterize digital modes and how the use of such features varies according to the participants and platforms involved. Digital technologies can also contribute to various aspects of the research design.
