This contribution discusses the evident shift to the right of the Austrian party scene, which became clear in the national elections of October 15, 2017. A process of normalization, so it is assumed, conditions an adaptation to the partly far-right agenda of populist parties and leads to a focus on migration and refugee policy. In an attempt to clearly define the phenomenon of “right-wing populism”, the shameless “naormalization” of previously taboo far-right content and statements will be illustrated in detail, taking as an example the rapprochement between the new Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ).
