Abstract

In the battle for the “center,” politicians from the ÖVP and FPÖ in particular often used the terms “common sense” or “normal.”
Appealing to “common sense” has a long tradition. How it was used in Austria in the election campaign and before and what that says about the positioning
of the ÖVP and FPÖ in relation to each other.
