N2 - This paper describes the development of a fast EMT system, which has been designed for applications in the metal production industry such as imaging the molten steel flow profiles during continuous casting. This system is designed to increase acquisition speed, decrease system size, improve resolution, and present images in real time. The system is based on a commercial data acquisition board installed in a PC host computer, together with an electronic unit and an eight-coil sensor array. Virtual instrument based software has been developed for the system based on the data acquisition system and LabView graphical programming language. The paper also presents details of the representative types of sensitivity maps of the system and the image results of electrically conductive objects by the use of image reconstruction algorithms.
