Abstract

Complex systems are dynamic and involve interactions such as dependencies, competitions and relationships between multiple elements or between a system and its different environments. Conflicts, disasters and other planetary issues require engaging with and exploring the broader ecosystems, environments and surroundings of evaluation subjects in ways that can foster resilience, sustainability, inclusivity and recovery. The Biophysical Context Lens treats the evaluation subject as a living entity, placing it at the centre of various environmental surroundings and associated parameters. This can help identify a range of interactions within a complex system that influences an evaluation subject’s different states of being such as resilience, sustainability, inclusivity and recovery. The presenters propose the Biophysical Context Lens as a way to understand and engage with the various environments of complex systems an evaluation subject belongs to.
