Abstract

Mechanisms of lexical access in bilingual comprehension and production have been investigated at length by researchers and subsequent findings often led to interesting observation on the relationship between bilingualism and cognition. In the present study, such mechanisms and their impact on cognition were investigated using a newly developed experimental framework: a Picture Recognition Task. While the experiment produced significant interference in lexical access, leading to unexpected but interesting results, it was able to comprehensively account for the cognitive effects of bilingualism.
