Conventional leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) radiate at different directions with respect to the variations of operating frequencies. With such an advantage of beam steering, LWAs are useful for fast frequency scanning systems. On the other hand, if LWAs could radiate in a fixed direction over a wide frequency band, they will also be promising in applications as high-throughput point-to-point communication. This paper discusses an implementation of such fixed beams by loading metasurface prism. Normally prism lens makes beams divergent. However, by carefully design the dispersion characteristic of the prism, it compensates the dispersion of the leaky-wave waveguides. Several successful examples are shown in this paper to demonstrate the accomplishment of the wideband fixed beams for LWAs.
