Abstract

Influence of bovine serum lubricant changeover time on the wear of poly tetra fluoro ethylene (PTFE) biomaterial against stainless steel was discussed. A four-station pin-on-plate rig was used which applied multi-directional motion to the test pins. The wear factor of PTFE was affected by lubricant changeover time. It was found that changeover times of 4 hours and 24 hours resulted in mean wear factors for the test pins of 8.0 ± 1.3 × 10 -5 mm 3 /Nm and 8.8 ± 0.8 × 10 -5 mm 3 /Nm respectively.
