N2 - Temporal patterns of total phosphorus dynamics were investigated under an extensive range of hydrological conditions. Intricate relationships were observed between flow discharge and nutrient concentration with the presence of hysteresis patterns. Base-flow conditions were dominated by the existence of diurnal patterns for both nutrients and water quality time series and suggest the significance of biochemical in-stream nutrient processing. These results provide evidence thatcoarse sampling strategies (daily) are insufficient to fully describe a complex pattern of nutrient dynamics at fine temporal scales (sub-daily and hourly).
