N2 - A short research article on the Royal Society’s History of Science blog series to launch the on-site exhibition 'John Ruskin and the Science of Sight' at the Royal Society and the digital exhibition ‘Behind the Eyes: Ruskin and the Science of Sight’ (Google Arts and Culture). John Ruskin and The Science of Sight 4 Oct. - 9 Dec. 2022, The Royal Society, LondonFrom the telescope to early forms of photography, Ruskin exploited developments in optical technologies to push the boundaries of recording the world with extreme visual clarity. Across two sites, this was the third exhibition in the series ‘John Ruskin in the Age of Science’. The exhibition draws on my research exploring Ruskin’s his influence on science and society, in his time and our own. I curated the exhibition in partnership with The Royal Society and Brantwood, exploring observation and evidence in Ruskin’s works, alongside his scientific contemporaries.
