Abstract

A D-band TWT (141 - 148.5 GHz) is the enabling device for a novel Point to multipoint sub-THz wireless network with multi Gigabit per second capacity in the frame of European Commission H2020 ULTRAWAVE project. TWTs for wireless applications due to the competitive market needs to be affordable and of easy fabrication. The electron gun is one of the most critical part of a TWT in terms of fabrication and cost. The design and fabrication of a new electron gun for D-band TWTs is presented. The simple structure of the electron gun is suitable for large production and low fabrication cost. The high voltage isolation is obtained by rings of ceramics. This avoid the need of potting as in conventional electron gun.
