Abstract

For modelling the technologically advanced learning ocean system (TALOS) wave energy converter (WEC), in-house time domain numerical modelling has been implemented at Lancaster University and used for optimizing the TALOS WEC to
maximize its extraction capacity. This approach includes optimizing the shape of the TALOS WEC with the effects of the power take-off (PTO) parameters, such as the spring coefficients and the PTO damping coefficient, for improving TALOS WEC performance. The relevant results show that the optimizations of the TALOS WEC could be very beneficial for improving its capacity for energy extraction from waves.
