N2 - With this proposal I aim to provide a reliable and state-of-the-art textbook on theories and methods in pragmatics. I am a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of pragmatics, and most of my research over the last 10 years has been centred on different aspects of cross-cultural, corpus-based, socio-cognitive and computational pragmatics, which appeared in the most relevant venues in this area (e.g. Journal of pragmatics, Intercultural pragmatics, Historical pragmatics, Applied Linguistics, Language and Cognition, Corpus linguistics and Linguistic theory and so on).The goal of this textbook is to discuss and engage with a number of key areas in pragmatics – both theoretically and methodologically – ranging from more traditional notions (such as presuppositions, implicatures, speech acts and so on), to more recent characterisations of the field, as in corpus, computational and evolutionary approaches. The monograph will also provide contemporary descriptions and applications of current dialogic turns of pragmatics theories, such as in conversation analysis and dialogic syntax. This means that the present textbook will focus on those aspects of pragmatics that are currently at issue in linguistics, but also in neighbouring social sciences, cognitive sciences and applied disciplines.
