Working closely with over 20 companies(including BT, BAA, Alfred McAlpine) and experts in the industry, this project re-conceptualised the traditional RIBA process and developed a process that has been adopted by over 33 organisations, as traced by a further study by Barratt and Gilkinson (and reported to the CIB World congress 2004). It has since been used by RICS to develop a process map for Disaster Management and as the basis for a process management system for British Nuclear Fuels. It led to a Salford University spin-out company, The Protocol Lab (current turnover '100,000 per annum with one fulltime employee and three part-time) and also led to further funding from EPSRC for a Process Network (EPSRC '60,000 April 2000 -2002) which involved 12 workshops attended by an average of representatives from 50 companies to each one. This was further developed into a successful bid for an EPSRC Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre ('3m) and an established self-funded network with over 500 company members and an EPSRC-funded international collaborative tour to four universities in China.
