Abstract

In this piece, I reflect on reading and engaging with Chip Berlet’s work as an academic researcher and activist. I consider five (overlapping) ways that I believe Chip’s contribution has been important to my outlook and work on the Far Right, racism, and reactionary politics, and to the wider research on and fight against these. These are his activist scholarship, his understanding and analysis of power, the politics of terminology, the mainstream, and his kindness and generosity.
