N2 - This article examines John Ruskin’s lifelong love of travelling by horse-drawn coach. I argue that this love of coach travel was based on more than just nostalgia or an antipathy for new modes of transport. Rather, I claim that Ruskin’s love of travelling by coach reflects an ethics of travel underpinned by a conviction about the importance of appreciating the vehicle in which one travelled and the world through which one passed.
