note = "This drawing continues themes of diasporas and emigration. The uncontrolled movement of people is a significant contemporary challenge to regional and national security, identity and cultural values; immigrants arrive with new skills and ideas but also needs and expectations. Davies's work seeks to understand the conditions of immigration by creating environments which mimic a group or family unit who are fleeing. Sculptors Raft (76x94cms) depicts artists and curators and part of the sculpture collection of the British Museum, reflecting particularly British and colonial experiences. The significance of this is emphasised by the drawing being shown in ex-colonial countries such as Australia and Singapore. This exhibition, curated by Professor Anita Taylor and Paul Thomas, founders of the Jerwood Drawing Prize, is selected from the winners, past artist jurors' and esteemed artists who have exhibited in the last ten years and as such, has become an archive for the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
