Abstract

The war in Ukraine has had devastating repercussions for global politics. In this essay, I reflect on the ways in which the war impacts the Middle East, both directly and indirectly, with a specific focus on the second-order consequences for States, elites and people. I argue that the Middle East’s position within the global capitalist system and its geopolitical importance mean that it is vulnerable to dramatic changes in international politics.
