N2 - Aim: Research in Australia has shown that partially-staffed group homes deliver better outcomes for people with moderate or mild intellectual disabilities despite their lower staff input. This study sought to examine the outcomes and costs of semi-independent living and staffed group homes for similar people in the UK. Method: 35 adult pairs in partially and fully staffed group homes were matched on adaptive and challenging behaviour and co-resident characteristics. Data were collected on (a) participant and co-resident characteristics, (b) participants’ social networks, activities, choice, safety, health and satisfaction, (c) resource inputs including staffing, accommodation costs and use of services. Results: Significant differences in outcomes and costs will be presented. Conclusions: Implications for cost-effective provision will be stated.
