The synthesis of Ru(diene)2P(OMe)3 complexes and the formation of 3:3-octadienediyl or 4-octatriene ligands upon phosphite addition to M(dimethylbutadiene)2CO (M=Fe, Ru).

Low temperature addition of P(OMe)3 to Ru/2,3-dimethylbutadiene and Ru/1,3-cyclohexadiene cocondensates yields Ru(diene)2P(OMe)3 complexes. The reactions of the bis(dimethylbutadiene) complexes M(C6H10)CO (M  Fe, Ru) with P(OMe)3 give new complexes containing either η3:η3-octadienediyl or η4-octatriene ligands.
