Abstract

The Turkish government has put in a motion of reforms to help Istanbul climb up the ranks of global financial centre rankings. Unlike London, New York and Frankfurt, Istanbul- despite offering diversified financial services- is currently an outsider in the competition for the top rankings. The article discusses the phenomenon of global financial centres, how they are ranked, and the Turkish government's policy initiative in the context of recent political and economic events in Turkey
