Self-efficacy is a measure of an individual’s confidence in their ability to do a given task. It is hypothesised that police officers with greater self-efficacy ratings in relation to their use of force should have more satisfactory outcomes when using force as part of their job. This project seeks to repeat the work of Butler et al 2023 in a UK setting to compare new recruits in a US police academy with those in a UK police training school. This data will then be used alongside other policing data to compare self-efficacy ratings with use of force outcomes to test the hypothesis.
