I am the International Partnerships Manager for Lancaster Environment Centre at Lancaster University. I obtained Ph.D. degree in microbiology from Aberdeen University. Following postdoctoral researcher posts at University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (now Manchester University) and Oxford University, I joined NERC-Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH)-Oxford in 2003 and was relocated to CEH-Lancaster in 2008; from 2009 to 2012 I was on secondment to Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) working on UK China Science Bridge Project.       

My research interests are in the field of environmental microbiology and environmental chemistry. Specifically, in microbial ecology of contaminated soil and bioremediation, dietary and environmental nitrates and human/animal interactions (microbial reduction of salivary nitrate), biocatalysts in biotransformation, genetic engineering of microorganisms for biotechnology, biodegradation of pollutants and modeling, and the development of bioreactor for green bioprocesses.

Before I came to the UK, I studied biological sciences and held both academic and management posts at a University in China for more than 10 years. The dual life I have had in China and the UK has broadened my horizon and way of thinking, which helps me in developing and managing international partnerships between UK and China for LEC. These partnerships bring together international stakeholders from scientific institutions, government departments/agencies, and industries for research and innovation. We believe this would produce enhanced mutual benefits. Another part of my role in LEC is pursuing multi-disciplinary research in environmental science and technology.
