Lancaster: Placemaking with Young Adults

Press/Media: Research

Description

Lancaster University, in partneship with Lancaster City Council, has launched a research project to engage young adults in the planning of South Lancaster. The project addresses challenges in involving young adults in local planning, aiming to integrate their perspectives into the Area Action Plan, which emphasises climate resilience and sustainable living.

Benefits of the initiative include creating a Lancaster-specific placemaking framework, connecting young adults with policymakers in workshops, and incorporating their input into planning processes. Success has led to further participatory placemaking efforts, involving young adults in research and policy work, and collaborating on a film about their vision for a sustainable future. The project innovates new engagement methods tailored to young adults.
