Convergence and divergence in energy-related practices: Understanding demand in the Global South

Dataset

Description

This data set consists of 11 transcriptions of semi-structured interviews with households. 5 of the transcribed interviews were conducted in Bangkok, Thailand and 6 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Altogether 51 interviews were conducted (26 in Bangkok, 31 in Hanoi) but only a selection of 11 interviews is archived in the database.

The interview themes include the ownership of domestic appliances and their use.

The interviews were in Thai or in Vietnamese and translated in situ by a research assistant. Transcriptions were made based on audio files by local research assistants and they are not verbatim.

Note: A sheet of paper was used in the interview situation where a timeline of the different houses the interviewee had lived in was drawn, and all the appliances used in those houses were marked. Timeline is not archived.

The transcripts can be accessed on request. Please write to rdm@lancaster.ac.uk stating the reasons for your access request and the intended use of the data. The transcripts are licensed CC-BY.
