Research overview

Profile

I am a PhD candidate at Lancaster University researching how the afterlife has been represented on screen in British cinema.

The afterlife is a thematic thread which offers a historical and transnational exploration of film from the silent era to contemporary cinema. Informed by Gothic, cultural, and death studies, my thesis explores the impact of death and attitudes towards mortality on film and examines cinematic constructions of the unknowable.

Alongside my research, I have had extensive experience working in the UK's independent cinema and cultural sector as a film curator and arts programmer. I am currently Head of Cinema at The Dukes in Lancaster, and I have worked as an Associate Lecturer for Lancaster University’s Film Studies Department for which I have been nominated for the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Student Experience.
