1. Psychological aspects of second language learning. I investigate the speech production and monitoring processes of second language learners. I conduct studies on the role of language aptitude and working memory capacity in language learning.
2. Language learners with special educational needs. I was the chief investigator of a project that explored the foreign language learning processes of dyslexic students. I authored a course-book on specific learning difficulties and language teaching and was part of an award-winning teacher training project in the field of dyslexia and language learning.
I am currently working on a digital English and German task bank for young dyslexic language learners in the Erasmus+ sponsored EnGaGe project.
I am interested in receiving PhD students in the following areas: psychological aspects of second language (L2) acquisition including L2 speech production and comprehension, cognitive processes of L2 learning, the role of cognitive and affective variables in L2 learning, language learning motivation, self-regulation, learner autonomy, special educational needs in language learning and teaching.
I am the Director of Studies for the MA TESOL Distance programme. Every year I teach the Second Language Acquisition module and several units in the Curriculum Design and Teacher Development module of this programme. I also offer an MA module on Teaching Languages to Students with Specific Learning Differences in a blended learning mode every second year.
