Research overview

The main focus of my current research is on the intelligent sensing, monitoring, and optimization of mechatronics systems, advanced manufacturing processes, clean energy production and their control.

1. Intelligent and autonomous condition monitoring of complex machines.

2. Monitoring and optimization of advanced manufacturing processes such as laser manufacturing, metal additive manufacturing, and CNC machining. 

3. Industrial data analytics with machine learning.


Dr. Min Xia is currently a Lecturer in Advanced Manufacturing at the Department of Engineering at Lancaster University. His research interests include intelligent machine condition monitoring, advanced manufacturing process monitoring and optimization, smart sensing, and smart manufacturing. Dr. Xia has published more than 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences including top journals in mechatronics and industrial informatics, such as IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics.

As a renowned researcher in advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, and artificial intelligence applications, Dr. Xia is seating on the editorial board of many peer-review journals including Mechatronics Systems and Control, Electronics, and Unmanned Systems Technologies. He has also organized special sessions in many journals and conferences together with global scholars.

Dr. Xia has led various prestigious international conferences as the general chair or committee chair including IEEE ICCSE (general chair for 2021, publication chair for 2020), IEEE CASE (Local organizing chair for 2019), and ICMVIT (publication co-chair for 2021). Dr. Xia has been invited to deliver more than 10 talks at leading universities in the US, Canada, UK, and China, which acknowledged his expertise.
