Profile

Nilla is a Partnerships & Business Engagement Manager for Engineering and Physical Sciences at Lancaster University, and she also supports business partnership development with Energy Lancaster and the Materials Science Institute. She works in a team of knowledge exchange professionals at the University using a variety of methods to accelerate the flow of knowledge between industry, academia and the public sector. There are a range of mechanisms for businesses to engage with researchers within Engineering and Physical Sciences, ranging from student placements, consultancy/contract research, professional development and multi-partner collaborative research projects.

Prior to joining the Partnerships & Business Engagement team, Nilla worked with companies from across a range of industry sectors, project managing a portfolio of R&D projects, providing advice on strategic technological decisions and facilitating collaboration between companies and the UK knowledge base. 

Nilla has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and an MEng in Sustainable Engineering from Lancaster University. Her PhD research was done in collaborative partnership with industry and focused on factors affecting the performance and reliability of regenerative pumps. She has previously been involved in several research & development projects, collaborating with SMEs on renewable energy technologies, sustainability and energy efficiency.  

Nilla is also a the Co-Chair of the Fluid Machinery Group of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the group’s representative on the Young Members Board. Through her roles within the Institution, Nilla plays a part in engaging, informing, and inspiring early career engineers, as well as liaising with internal and external technical experts, the public and the government.
