Profile

I joined Lancaster University in January 2023. Before joining Lancaster, I taught at the University of Warwick and the University of Lincoln.

My core research interest is in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) law and policy. My current research projects focus on the compliance challenges of African countries with the global AML/CFT standards in the face of their recent sanctioning. I have also recently started looking at the linkage between AML/CFT governance and critical reporting actors (including lawyers, high value dealers, etc).

I have a track record of producing high quality research and facilitating impact. My doctoral thesis was adjudged to be of high quality. It has been published as a monograph titled Regulating and Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing: The Law in Emerging Economies (Routledge 2021). Given my interest in the compliance complexities of African countries, I am currently working on an edited book titled Global Anti-Money Laundering Regulation: Developing Countries Compliance Challenges (Routledge, 2023). I have also published in reputable peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Banking Regulation and the African Journal of Legal Studies. To foster impact-driven stakeholder engagement in my research area, I founded the Global South Dialogue on Economic Crime, an interdisciplinary platform for advancing dialogue, research, and capacity on economic and financial crimes.

To ensure that I deliver excellent teaching, I completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Course, and I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I hold a PhD in Law and an LLM (with distinction) in International Economic Law from the University of Warwick. I am also a graduate of the Nigerian Law School and I have been called to the Nigerian Bar.
