Research overview

My thesis explores intersections between the Gothic mode and drag performance. I explore this by considering specific Gothic figures (Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, Vampires, Witches, Demons, Nuns, Monks, Horror Hostesses, Hags), and how they are used in drag shows, and what meanings this transposition produces. Doing so enables me to use Gothic and drag to tug at each other’s shared components and place spotlights on typically ignored parts of queer gothic like camp and joyous gender disturbances, and the textual properties of drag performance.
