Research overview

I am an interdisciplinary development studies researcher with a background in both urban and development studies. My current research focuses on the role of digital technologies in reshaping climate change adaptation practices. In particular, the research explores the interaction between ‘the digital’ and the socio-historical context, the politics of scale, and indigenous knowledge and adaptation practices and the implications these interactions have on our understanding of justice, politics, and forms of resistance.

Current Research

The current research titled 'Digital Climate Futures – A Decolonial and Justice Perspective on Digitalised Climate Change Adaptation' empirically investigates digital climate change adaptation initiatives via a global mapping of discourses and practices and a case study in rural India.

The research aims to advance critical adaptation studies, digital justice, and digital/environmental humanities and builds an ambitious dissemination plan targeting wider audiences.

The project has five main objectives wherein I directly contribute to achieving objectives no. 3, 4, and 5.

  1. Develop a novel analytical framework to conceptualise the justice implications of digital climate adaptation
  2. Map existing digital platforms for climate services globally
  3. Investigate how users and communities engage with, co-design, employ, and resist such applications through a case study in rural India;
  4. Investigate how digital adaptation contributes to reshaping knowledge and power relations at the local level.
  5. Producing a toolkit for decolonial digital practices in climate adaptation useful for both academics and practitioners
