Research Interests

My research is concerned with cognitive processes underlying language and reading systems. I am particularly interested in the way that we access semantic and phonological information from visual-orthographic input, how the information changes with psycholinguistic factors, and whether processing principles are language general or specific to different language systems (e.g., English and Chinese). I am also interested in how various contributors (e.g., environmental or developmental) affect literacy development. I explore these issues by using a variety of techniques including computational modelling, corpus analysis, and behavioural investigations.
