Abstract

The challenge faced by schools is balancing energy usage from heating (40% of annual costs), comfort levels of students/teachers & ventilation to reduce the spread of Covid & illnesses. Often, this leads to inefficient compromises jeopardising the corners of this trilemma. A solution could be sensors monitoring indoor air quality (IAQ) & temperature/humidity to make data-driven decisions on how to best manage classrooms. This could reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and create safer spaces for learning.
