This represents three chapters of M. Holford and K. J. Stringer, "Border Liberties and Loyalties: North-East England, c.1200-c.1400" (which is to be published by Edinburgh University Press in 2008: ISBN 978-0-7486-3278-7), together with an Introduction and a Conclusion which have been specially written to set the work on Tynedale and Redesdale in a broader context, and to produce a self-standing electronic book in its own right.
