We report the isolation and characterisation of an octasaccharide derived from the chondroitin sulphate linkage region of 6-8-year-old bovine articular cartilage aggrecan following digestion with chondroitin ABC endolyase. Characterisation by a novel high pH anion exchange chromatography method, identified the following structure for the chondroitin sulphate linkage region octasaccharide: ΔUAβ(1-3)GalNAc6Sβ(1-4)GlcAβ(1- 3)GalNAc6Sβ(1-4)GlcAβ(1-3)Galβ(1-3)Galβ(1-4)Xyl.
