Abstract

The aim of this book is to chart the impact of Design on Education, more specifically on how design can shape the spaces and tools for learning. This book brings together designers, architects, engineers, professionals, educators, and researchers that present a series of case studies and research developed in the Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia. Everyone is a designer, but professional designers and researchers should be able to facilitate an innovative approach to design for education, this book illustrates the conversation and action we need to take into the future of socially responsible design for education.
We must look at education as input and output of a complex system. Approaching the design and redesign of education as a place, a service and a system requires a new approach, and interdisciplinary multiple stakeholder approach that: 1) Define the desired output, the values imbued within this; 2) Design the system, in reference to the outcomes, the context and the community; 3) Design the evaluation of the implemented system; 4) Design the artifacts within the system and the individual evaluation of these elements; 5) Use frameworks, tools and techniques that all the participants can understand use and whose outcomes are translatable.
