N2 - This article unpacks designs and representations within love objects, alongside examples from documented relationships, to paint a greater understanding of the range of material avenues and channels open to men, as well as the pressures and conflicts they experienced when practising rituals of love in the seventeenth century. This ultimately reveals the connections between object, person and action, and how the three worked together enabled sophisticated, acute and sensitive offerings of love.
