Estimates of extreme sea level heights for specific 'return periods' are often required from data which are not of sufficient length for a conventional extreme value analysis. This problem is examined in this Technical Note, and a solution involving the transfer of extreme level information to a target site from a nearby reference port, for which a long data set is available, is illustrated. The transferred data are analysed, using the revised joint probability method.
