Abstract

I will discuss the relevant priorities for promoting the continuation of academic integrity and authorship during the education of architects in the age of AI. It is an opportunity for SCOSA and all schools of architecture to examine both the opportunities and challenges related to AI in our educational settings. I will consider AI’s potential impact on student learning, development, creativity, and achievement with reference to skills and abilities referenced in the Department for Education’s call for evidence on AI in the context of HEI (May 23)

I will discuss what might constitute academic misconduct or misappropriation in the context of AI and architectural education, explore the use of AI as a study aid, and assess opportunities for schools to use machine learning and new technology in teaching and assessment. Key to this conversation will be engagement with students and through the fostering of clear communication and the creation of an open conversation that balances AI potential with the risk of misuse.
