N2 - In this paper we describe the concept of the Shannon Product of trellises. We then show how this concept can be used to design a low-complexity sub-optimal trellis decoding algorithm for RS codes. Finally we present an estimate of the complexity for this practical decoder, and the performance as measured by computer simulation.
