Shetland Magnetometer for AuroraWatch UK

Project: Other

Description

Nathan has secured funding from GradConsult, an SME specialising in graduate employment, to purchase, build, and deploy a Raspberry Pi based magnetometer (an instrument to measure magnetic fields). In collaboration with Promote Shetland (the Shetland tourism board), this magnetometer will be installed in Shetland to measure the changes in the earth's magnetic field caused by the aurora. The aim is to improve the AuroraWatch UK alerts and develop a system that is affordable enough for citizen scientists to purchase and use.
