After studying Economics and Statistics at Bristol University I became an Operational Research Scientist with Courtaulds and then at the Central Electricity Generating Board. When I later moved to SKF I established their first marketing activity. Then, having been an evening-class teacher for several years, I accepted a Lectureship at Loughborough University of Technology. After an extended period at Loughborough I resigned my Readership there to became a Fellow of Templeton College, University of Oxford where I taught undergraduates and postgraduates as well as contributing to and directing programmes for senior executives. After the University opened the Said Business School I also taught there and was, for three years, one of its Deputy Directors. I am now an Emeritus Fellow of Templeton College.
