Research overview

My main ongoing research interest is in Sustainable Supply Chain Management including: the resilience of local to global food supply chains in terms of environmental, social and economic sustainability; the impact Modern Slavery Legislation; the influence of NGOs; and the role of horizontal supply chain collaboration.  Other research interests include: workload control systems for make-to-order manufacturing companies offering high levels of product customisation; and the application of Six Sigma continuous improvement programmes in manufacturing and service industries.

PhD supervision

I am interested in supervising further Ph.D students in the Sustainable Supply Chain Management area. In particular, there are opportunities to investigate: the impact of Modern Slavery Legislation on social sustainability in the Supply Chain; and Buyer-Supplier contracting for Sustainable Supply Chain Management.

  • N8 Agri-Food funded project:  Local Food Supply Chain Resilience: The Brexit Effect? 
  • Investigation of Local Buying as a sustainable, socially responsible sourcing strategy;
  • The impact of Modern Slavery Legislation on socially responsible sourcing in the global fashion and textiles industry;
  • Reshoring to the UK in the fashion and textiles industry;
  • Implementation of sustainable supply chain management strategies in the UK Higher Education sector – the impact of outsourcing food and catering services; and the impact of institutional pressures, logics and complexity;
  • Social sustainability issues in global supply chains.

Postgraduate Supervision of PhD students and Masters Student Dissertations


Other Teaching Competence Operations Management at all levels of UG and PG teaching; Supply Chain Management; Quantitative techniques for decision makingat UG and PG level;  Post  experience: Manufacturing Insitute master's dissertation supervisor and module convenor - Module 4, World Class Manufacturing, for MSc in Manufacturing Leadership.
