The Pentland Centre for Sustainability in Business is a University research centre.

Our mission is delivering world-class transdisciplinary research evidence and engagement to support and advance the mainstreaming of social and environmental sustainability into purposeful business strategy at board level.

This mission is fulfilled through engagement between academia, businesses of all sizes, policymakers and others in identifying and addressing:

• How a strategic focus on sustainability risks, challenges and opportunities can drive both financial and non-financial performance.
• The changing of business models to advance corporate responsibility towards a sustainable transformation of business-as-usual.
• The nature and impacts of changing stakeholder values.

In undertaking this work we support achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement by, for example, informing business strategies consistent with both social justice and a maximum global warming of 1.5oC above pre-industrial temperatures.

We deliver provocative research on sustainability in business, and outreach that creates tangible real-world impact. Drawing on expertise across Lancaster University, especially from Lancaster University Management School and the Lancaster Environment Centre, we bring together the latest global views from across academic disciplines and engage directly with leading companies and organisations to develop opportunities, understand risks and challenge the status quo.
