Research overview

I research experiences of health and social care, including institutions and their impact on understandings of gender and disability. My PhD study was an ethnography of a women's secure mental health and learning disability service.  I have studied experiences of interpersonal violence, mental health, drug recovery, and service responses from multiple perspectives.  Some of my research has been featured in NICE guidance and Parliamentary debates. I am interested in creative and inclusive research methods with marginalised groups, feminist and disabiity research.

I currently teach Special Study Modules in the Medical School covering bioethical aspects of mental health treatment, accessible and inclusive health information, and workbased learning.

In the past I have convened and taught Violence and Society (BA2) and Gender Sex and Bodies (MA) in the Sociology Department.

Other teaching includes Adult Social Care (BA2 and MA), Contemporary Social Problems (BA1), Society and Drugs (BA2).
