My research focuses on developing understanding of fundamental hydrological and water quality processes in headwater catchments, particularly in the UK but more recently extending to the Asian tropics. This is achieved through the combined use of innovative in-situ sensors that can measure water quality and quantity variables at high frequency and dynamic time-series modelling techniques. I am currently working on the NERC Diversity of Upland Rivers for Ecosystem Service Sustainability (DURESS) (http://nerc-duress.org) and the NERC CWC Hydrologic and carbon services in the Western Ghats (https://www.bgs.ac.uk/changingwatercycle/WesternGhats.html) projects.
Other research interests include palaeoenvironmental change in Amazonia and the eastern Mediterranean.
