IAA AHRC: Generation Fix: Designing Educational Toolkits to Accelerate Digital Circular Economy Education Within Local Communities

Project: Research

Description

FUNDING

AHRC £17,718

Generation Fix will leverage creative and collaborative design research methods to develop a practical, ‘hands on’ educational toolkit which accelerates Digital Circular Economy repair skills and know-how within local communities. E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world and ever-increasing numbers of discarded electronics are characterised as ‘smart’ devices. It is therefore essential that more people become empowered with better expertise and tools for conducting digital technology repair.

However, whilst citizens display deep enthusiasm for this green transition, there exists an inherent ‘repair skills gap’ in communities. The Generation Fix project will help to close this gap. The team will design Fix Kits which teach vital technology repair knowledge and Digital Circular Economy literacy, while building transferable skills like creative problem-solving.
